Director of Finance

Mogo is looking for a Director, Finance to play a key role on the Finance Team in our Vancouver office. What you'll do: 

Public company reporting 

  • Review quarterly and annual financial statements and MD&A for public filing 
  • Lead annual audit process and quarterly reviews 
  • Monitor and develop business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls for SOX compliance 
  • Participate in the Disclosure Committee 
  • Present to the Audit Committee and Board of Directors on financial reporting and control matters 

Support complex transactions and acquisitions 

  • Lead due diligence and integration from a finance perspective 
  • Research complex technical accounting and financial reporting issues for compliance with IFRS 
  • Research tax implications of transactions and work proactively with senior leadership to structure deals for optimal tax results 

Controllership 

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the finance team and ensure work assigned is completed on time with accuracy with full ownership of the general ledger, GL entries, Accounts Payable and Revenue/Receivables/Receipts 
  • Review monthly internal financial statements and reporting for use by business stakeholders in a timely manner 
  • Manage the corporate tax filings and other government filings 
  • Manage cash flow, working closely with FP&A on 13-week rolling cash flow forecasts 
  • Develop accounting and funds-flow processes for new products and features, working closely with the product, development and operations teams 
  • Manage (directly and indirectly) a growing high-performance finance team of individuals across two locations, including hiring, coaching and performance management 
  • Support senior management with short and long-term financing goals. 
  • Proactively review and improve existing finance processes and systems, and develop new processes to support business evolution 
  • Additional special projects and duties as per needed 

What you'll need: 

  • University degree in a related discipline with a CPA designation
  • Minimum 3 years in a similar role, bonus points for candidates with financial services or technology experience
  • Experience managing complex financial reporting under IFRS at publicly traded companies including understanding and implementation of internal controls 
  • Experience with multiple currencies and consolidation 
  • Strong computer proficiency with advanced skill levels in MS Excel, accounting systems (preferably Great Plains)
  • Knowledge and experience implementing financial systems and other software is an asset. 
  • Experience developing a high performing team with proven success in growing, mentoring and coaching (some experience with remote team members is a plus) 
  • Proven success managing priorities and multi-tasking in a highly dynamic, collaborative entrepreneurial environment with strict deadlines 
  • Experience interfacing with teams across multiple locations and providing exceptional customer service to internal clients 
  • Investigative nature, eager to understand the data/patterns present and roll up your sleeves to process/synthesize the data when things don’t seem to add up 
  • Drive to understand processes and how pieces are interrelated. Keen ability to recognize implications and knock down effect of any changes 
  • Strong awareness of what an individual (auditor, executive, team member) is looking for and capability of providing information in a way that accomplishes their goals
  • Exceptional ability to communicate insights and recommendations in a thoughtful and concise way 
  • Strong project management skills with an understanding of how to effectively break down a problem into manageable, actionable pieces
